How to record your own ringtone on Android?
Android offers the opportunity to set a wide variety of media files as ringtones and notifications. Below are steps on how to record your own ringtone on Android.
Record your own ringtone on Android
Step 1: Record your voice memo.
If you don’t have a voice recording app on your phone yet, you can install Samsung Voice Recorder (for Galaxy phones only) or Voice Recorder.
After installing the app, open it up. To record, follow these:
- Press the red button in the bottom. Wait for a second and begin to speaking or singing clearly.
- Press the stop button to stop recording. Write a name and choose SAVE to save the file. Press the play button to preview the recording.
Step 2: Install File Manager.
Most Android devices come with a default file manager. If this is not the case, you will need to download and install one from Google Play.
Here are some good file managers you can install on your phone:
- Astro File Browser
- FX File Explorer
- MK Explorer
- ES File Explorer
- Total Commander
Step 3: Move the recording file to the appropriate folder.
To see the file in the ringtone or notification settings menu, you must move the recording file to the appropriate folder.
To differentiate the ringtone types:
- Ringtones are used when someone calls your phone.
- Notifications play for a variety of events, such as incoming text messages or app notifications.
- Alarm sounds will play when you have an alarm set (the tone must also be designated within the alarm or clock app).
- Some apps have custom ringtones such as Google Hangouts or Facebook.
Firstly, choose which type of tone you would like your memo or voice file to be. Open your file manager app of choice. These screenshots are from FX File Explorer.
Secondly, find the voice memo you want to use as a ringtone. When using Voice Recorder, the storage folder is located under Media Card > Voice Recorder. It may or may not be a similar folder if you are using a different app.
Thirdly, long press on the file and you’ll see a list of options like the below screenshot. Select Copy and then move on.
Step 4: Open the folder you wish to move the file.
- Ringtones should be stored in Music / Audio > Ringtones
- Notifications should be stored in Music / Audio > Notifications
- Alarms should be stored in Music / Audio> Alarms
If you are using FX File Explorer, there should now be an icon displayed that says Clipboard – 1 Copied on the top right. If you’re using another file manager, you may see something similar, or nothing at all.
Set your voice memo as a ringtone
Step 1: Go to Settings > Sounds and vibration.
Step 2: Select Ringtone.
Step 3: Select the voice memo > select ADD to save it as your ringtone.
And when your phone rings, the voice memo should play.
