Meditation sounds more about Hinduism or Buddhism than Christianity, doesn’t it? And it’s way more acceptable to see Buddha sitting on a lotus, folding his legs, resting his arms and closing his eyes than Christ does. That gradually builds up a fixed idea that meditation is not christian. However, if you are looking for tangible proofs for meditation in the Bible, there are. Take a look on below verses that speak to it:

Timothy 4:15

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Corinthians 3:16

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Psalm 1:1-2

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Matthew 6: 5-8

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room and close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask.

Before making any significant decisions, Jesus christ frequently appears to make time for pray in verses. For example:

Luke 6:12-13

One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles.

Especially when he reaches his peak time for crucifixion, he spends all night long to pray to God.

Luke 6:12-13

One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles.

Did Jesus meditate?

Even though meditation is mentioned several times in verses, Christians believe that it’s the act of devoting themselves to prayer with God. It’s clear that prayers play a vital part in Jesus’ journey. He prays for the guidance and protection from God that gives him more strength and wisdom to complete his true mission.

Did Jesus meditate? It depends much on what you assume about his act of “talking to God”, then wrap up him really meditates or not. We have no reason to debate about whether meditation is for Christians. Jesus preaches the message of love and so does Buddha. Practising meditation or praying brings you closer to the source of love, compassion, and kindness. As long as you do it with a heart full of love, you did it right regardless of your belief.

Is Jesus’ prayer a kind of meditation?

Actually, it’s called spiritual meditation – one of nine types of meditation. Spiritual meditation is often practiced in Eastern religions, such as Daoism, Hinduism or christian faith. It’s not required you to practice any particular postures like lotus pose but drive your intention and strengthen your connection with God.
